Zacharias Frankel College
The Zacharias Frankel College, founded in 2013 to train Conservative/Masorti rabbis for Europe, is affiliated with the School of Jewish Theology at the University of Potsdam and the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies of the American Jewish University in Los Angeles. It is named in memory of Rabbi Zacharias Frankel, who provided the foundational principles of what came to be known as Conservative Judaism. Frankel was the Founding Director of the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau, which existed from 1854 until 1938, when it was forced to close down by the National Socialists. The Zacharias Frankel College is financed by the Foundation Schwarz-Schütte Potsdam and the Leo Baeck Foundation, as well as the Simha and Sara Lainer Family Foundation and the Torah Fund of the Women's League for Conservative Judaism. The first graduate of the College was ordained in June 2017.
